Ask your insurance company for a list of pediatricians who accept your insurance. Before selecting a pediatrician, you will want to make sure that the doctor accepts your insurance.
Ask your friends and relatives who have children who their pediatrician is. It is important for you to choose a physician that you and your spouse will be comfortable with. You also want a facility and staff that are welcoming. Your friends and relatives know you well and will be able to guide you in finding a pediatrician who meets your needs.
Ask your obstetrician (Ob/Gyn) whom he or she recommends. Obstetricians and pediatricians have a close working relationship and an Ob/Gyn who has been in practice in the community for a while will know the area pediatricians.
Consider the location of the doctor's office. Your baby will need to see the pediatrician several times during the first year. You may want a pediatrician who is close to your home, place of business, or daycare provider.
Visit the office to see the facility and meet the office staff. The facility and staff should have a friendly, welcoming feel. Is the waiting room comfortable? Does the receptionist greet you and your child warmly? Can you ask a nurse a question?
